If you’re a fan of prix fixe meals then you’ll love the daily menú del dia served at many Oaxacan restaurants. These lunch specials are an excellent way to sample local favorites. Menus vary from day-to-day and from one restaurant to the next, but often include a fresh agua fresca (fruit-infused water), appetizer and entreé—and sometimes coffee, tea and dessert. Beautiful courtyard setting and friendly staff keep us coming back regularly to this healthy restaurant. Fresh, made to order, daily vegetarian menu with dessert and tea included. Non-vegetarian a la carte menu items available. The falafel sandwich is a favorite.

El Huateque

Creative plates in an artful setting make this hidden gem one of our neighborhood favorites and a partner on our food tour. Menu varies from pork in a spicy peanut sauce to spaghetti Bolognese and chicken cordon bleu – always accompanied by lovely salad and soup to start.

This is one of our top picks and also one of our food tour partners! Their prix fixe menu is only available on Wednesdays but it advised to call for a reservation on Monday because they typically sell out. A gorgeous setting and innovative menu items like chicharron fish tacos with watercress make Los Danzantes a lovely weekly treat. Includes a mescal, dessert, coffee or tea.

Riviere Gran Cafe

When your in the mood for something other than traditional Oaxacan food venture over to this quaint French restaurant. Daily menu varies from salmon steamed in paper to duck a la orange with curried couscous. Includes appetizer, dessert and coffee, tea or espresso.

La Casa de Maria

A gorgeous, light-filled patio setting, good food and attentive wait staff make this boutique hotel restaurant an oasis of calm off busy Calle de Benito Juarez. A la carte items and full bar available. Recent offerings included chicken in a chipotle cream sauce with rice and fresh filet of fish.
